Otakuthon 2009

Otakuthon is an Anime Convention in Montreal that usually happens in the summer. It is usually organized by the members of the anime club in Concordia University.

The convention has a large variety of attractions, such as a large room full of dealers, a masquerade, many contests, a famous one being “Anime Name That Tune”, Otakuthon Idol and many more. There are also new attractions coming up this year like Yaoithon.

A fanfiction contest is also one of the new contests this year. The fanfiction has a quota of 2000 to 2500 words and it has to be rated G to PG13. The theme of the fanfiction is “To survive with a box of Pocky”. The choice of the Anime/Game/Manga/Book/etc. series is entirely up to the author.

The dates of Otakuthon is from July 31, 2009 to August 02, 2009.

Via Otakuthon.

Much to my chagrin, the popularity of anime gay-butt-smex has risen to the point where the organizers of this event actually decided to put together a sub-division of such sorts. I thought the yaoi panel last year was bad enough, which consisted of an explanation to what Yaoi is and how to pronounce it, as well as the fact that men made out for free donuts was also quite the shocking and disgusting sight. Then again, that’s just me.

I’m also not sure if Fuyukaze will actually participate in the fanfiction contests due to the fact that his normal fanfiction lengths borders the level of overkill, in my opinion. As well as his fanfictions tend to be rather….bloody, for a lack of better word.

Also not mentionned above, the amount of random battles between cosplaying otakus have increased as well, some of the battles lasting half an hour.

Hopefully, the convention this year will be even more amusing than last year’s.

  1. […] Thank goodness I was able to buy this on thursday. Hopefully, more figures will come to sci-fi soon or maybe I’ll just buy some figures in bulk during the upcoming Otakuthon. […]
