Darkfall Online – Revolutionary MMORPG?

I have not been playing much massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPG) for a long while. The last one I played was ROHAN Online – which I sometimes go in from time to time to check out the community – but I have never entered another online game due to lack of originality and absence of free time. Perhaps it would be best since I do not want to spend hours on end trying to find the right build for a character and end up realizing way too late that I messed it up completely. But yesterday, if I remember correctly, a friend of mine approached me with this rather interesting concept of an mmorpg.

Imagine a game where there is no level up, where there is no adding to STR, Constitution / VIT, INT, DEX, etc… (the usual character upgrades) – and only the skills remain. It would mean that there will be no need to go reroll your character or restart whenever you mess something up. All you need to do is train a set of particular skills and voila – you are whatever you are. What’s even better is that, when you are tired of being a, let us say, swordsman and want to be a mage – drop the swordplay and train your magic skills. Simple really – not that I am saying training the skills will be easy, but the whole concept is relatively easy to comprehend.

But wait, there is even more – create your own town, control others, loot the items from your kills! Just like Diablo, whenever you die, you leave your stuff and it remains there until you recover them. In this case though – when you die, your items remain on your useless corpse but can (and usually will) be taken by whoever killed you. I rather find this a revolutionary type of online rpg game.
